Copan – Heck of a Travel Deal

With all the travel deals around these days, a traveler can be picky. If you’re like me, it’s easy to pass on deal after deal with the thinking that there’s got to be something better down the line. Now, better might mean more luxurious for the price of $100, or it might mean a more exotic destination like Honduras. That’s why when I found that hotels in the Copan Ruins were discounting room rates up to 50% during their high season this winter, I got excited at the idea of a holiday in western Honduras in a village known for its tranquility and rich Mayan history.

Quick Copan Visit

Today I visited the Mayan ruins of Copan. Copan is known as the cultural center of the Mayan civilizations during the Classical period (200-900 AD). It is believed that people have inhabited this area for well over 3000 years, and as early as 1200 BCE there is evidence of a booming trade industry of various crafts.

Cusuco National Park

To start, Cusuco National Park is located west to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. the cloud forest has 2 zones. The core zone and the buffer zone. The core zone is the area where the forest is most dense and virgin, and it’s more protected. The buffer zone surrounds the core zone; it’s the area where mountain villages settled.

The huge diversity of activities you can do in Cusuco National park is amazing. I will give you top 10 I most like. Our guide from junglexpedition tours showed us the way.

New Honduran Guidebook Debuts

Frommer’s has just debuted a new travel guide to Honduras.

Nicholas Gill, author of the first edition of “Frommer’s Honduras”, says the Central American country has “a little bit of everything: beaches, active adventures, historical sites, indigenous cultures, wildlife and laidback getaways.”

His recommendations for best travel experiences include:

—Semana Santa in Comayagua, the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday when “vivacious daily processions and hordes of pilgrims” show their devotion.

—Diving the barrier reef in the Bay Islands, which the author says is not only spectacular but cheap when compared to diving rates in other parts of the world.
