Feriado Morazanico 2018

My grandfather loved to say: “whether the weather is cold, or whether the weather is hot, you have to weather the weather, whether you like it or not”.  One thing was obvious for this Feriado Morazanico 2018 in Honduras: the weather was rainy! It was very rainy. Many tourists from Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula drove to different destinations for this 5-day holiday. They all got to weather the weather with ponchos and umbrellas!

By the afternoon, the waterfall was visible and weather was clearing up!

Perhaps one of the winning destinations for the Feriado Morazanico 2018 was La Ceiba. Not only because it was one of the destinations where it rained more moderately. The shining star in La Ceiba is the Cangrejal River Valley. One of the favorite activities for travelers that come here is to do white water rafting. Thanks to the generous rain up in the Nombre de Dios Mountains, the river was spectacular. I must confess it had been weeks since it was at such a great level![themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

Others came to La Ceiba to enjoy the rainforests of Pico Bonito and Nombre de Dios National Parks. It is understood that if you visit a rainforest, you may well run into some rain. And yes, the rain forests of both these parks received a generous amount of rain. It was definitely not a vacation for the beach. But then, this is the rainy season along the Caribbean Coast of Honduras.

The Feriado Morazanico is one of the Important Holiday Seasons in Honduras

One thing is for sure, the weather ganged up on Honduran tourists this Feriado Morazanico 2018. A strong tropical wave in the Gulf of Honduras interacted with another tropical wave in the Pacific coast. The result was lots of rain all over the country! By the end of the holiday, the low-pressure system on the Caribbean became Tropical Depression #14 and is going North towards the Yucatan Channel. This is certainly good news, however the low system on the Pacific is now inland over Southern and Central Honduras and continues to rain. This rainy weather will last for a few more days!

If you are driving on the highways in Honduras today, please use caution. Pavement is wet, visibility may be limited by bad weather. Remember, it is best to avoid driving at night. I hope you had a great and enjoyable Feriado Morazanico 2018!
