Today, I had the opportunity to chat with a couple of Italian tourists that are on a motorcycle tour through Honduras. They were driving two lovely Kawasaki 650 dirt bikes and were having a blast. Carlo and Giorgio spent two nights at La Villa de Soledad B&B in the Cangrejal River Valley. There they combined motorcycling with some nature and adventure activities. These included a hike to the El Bejuco waterfall in Pico Bonito National Park. They also did some white water rafting in the Cangrejal River Valley.
But their big activity the day before was to bike up through the Nombre de Dios mountains. They took the old road to Olanchito via the famous “Culebra” road. The road travels up following the Cangrejal River to the Yaruca Valley. From there it follows the valley before continuing up the mountains towards the Village of Yaruca. Päst Yaruca, the road pretty much disappears, and becomes a trail. The old highway had many switchbacks and the descent into the Aguan Valley was so steep, that it had frequent landslides. Eventually, the road was abandoned. If you have the proper motorcycle, and some experience, it can be a heck of an experience!
Garifuna Tours offers this this motorcycle tour in Honduras and includes a guide in his own motorcycle plus a service vehicle. Imagine a tour with two guides there to make sure you have the time of your life! Today they set up early in the morning and their destination is Lake Yojoa. The route would follow part of the CA13 highway between La Ceiba and the Lean River. From there, they would head up through a mountain road towards El Negrito in the department of Yoro, and finally get to the CA5 highway that interconnects San Pedro Sula with Tegucigalpa.
I understood the trip would then take them up the mountains by way of Pulhapanzak Waterfalls before they finally arrived at the D&D Brewery lodge where they were to spend the night. Talk about one heck of motorcycle tour in Honduras! The tour will take them as far as Copan Ruinas. There, they will visit the magnificent Copan Archaeological Park and the magical Macaw Mountain Bird Park. The route is well planned and I am tempted to call Garifuna Tours in Tela and arrange for a tour myself!
