Birding at La Villa de Soledad B&B

Without doubt, Bird Watching is one the top things to do in Pico Bonito National Park. The park offers great nature lodges where you can stay within the jungle. These lodges all offer nearby trails, and the jungle is full of birds. Honduras offers the largest list of birds to see in Central America. One of the most prolific sites for birdwatching I n Honduras is Pico Bonito National Park. The lovely cotinga is one of the most sought out birds in the area. The good news is that it is relatively easy to see![themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

The trails within Pico Bonito National Park offer a fantastic window into the jungle. Because of its rugged topography, there are many creeks that rush down the steep mountain slopes. These crystal-clear creeks often plunge down ravines, creating spectacular waterfalls. Most of these waterfalls are hidden behind the lush tropical forests. They provide a one heck of a reward to the adventurers who forge their way through the jungle paths. Hiking the trails in Pico Bonito National Park is one the favorite things to do in Pico Bonito National Park. Of course, hikers cannot resist the temptation to jump into the cool, refreshing pools at the bottom of these falls.[themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

Access to trails is via the Zacate River area and the Cangrejal River area. This last one is accessible through a 400-foot-long hanging bridge. The bridge itself is an adventure! This is as close as you will get to an “Indiana Jones” adventure in real life! As you cross the bridge, you will see the raging waters of the Cangrejal River maneuver through huge boulders. This is a great lookout spot to see the rafters navigating through these exciting waters!
If you are looking for something a bit more adventuresome, try some white-water rafting.

Nigel Marven Rafting the Cangrejal River!

It turns out that the Cangrejal River offers outstanding white-water rafting. This is probably the most popular of all things to do in Pico Bonito National Park. As the river flows between huge house size boulders, it creates many drops and pools. These provide World Class currents with class III and IV rapids. Since the river is the border between two National Parks, your chances of seeing some exotic wildlife are quite good. I can almost guarantee you will see some keel billed toucans![themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

If you would like to get a bird’s eye view of the forest, try the zip line canopy tour. To begin with, you will get to cross the river through a zip line high over the water to the opposite river bank. From there, a short hike will take you up through Pico Bonito National Park to the second zip line station. A total of 9 cables will get you back safely to the starting point. This is a great adventure and source of adrenaline!
