Downtown Restaurants in San Pedro Sula

Most travelers visiting San Pedro Sula stay in the upscale franchise hotels in the Zona Viva of San Pedro Sula. However, if you want to get a feel for the city, you should consider staying or visiting the downtown area. There are two fine hotels in the downtown area, plus many others that are not a bad option. Personally, my favorite is the Hotel Casa del Arbol in Guamilito.

If you do visit or stay downtown, you will need to find a place to eat. You will find a variety of downtown restaurants in San Pedro Sula. These of course include all the franchises, such as Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s etc. However, I imagine you are probably more interested in a local experience, and therefore, following are my recommendations for you to consider.

Casa del Arbol Restaurant

Great breakfast and lunch buffet at Casa del Arbol

You will find this restaurant at the Casa del Arbol hotel, a few blocks from Central Park in San Pedro Sula. The address is 6th Avenue between 2nd and 3rd streets. The restaurant is open Monday through Friday for breakfast and lunch. They serve a “tipico” breakfast that includes coffee, juice, eggs, beans and fried plantains. Lunch options vary, with an abundant selection available in the buffet at very reasonable prices. The restaurant is clean, safe and the food is great. You cannot go wrong here. They also have wifi available for their guests.[themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

Skandia Cafeteria

Skandia Cafe at the Gran Hotel Sula

This is probably the oldest restaurant in town! It has been part of the San Pedro Sula experience for over 70 years! Best of all, it has not changed a bit! If you were here decades ago, you will certainly get that déjà vu feeling as soon as you walk in. There is only one thing better than their fresh orange juice available here, and that is the fresh ruby red grapefruit juice! You can choose between indoor air-conditioned atmosphere or a poolside table outdoors. Food is great, prices are exceptional and their pastries are famous. Skandia is open daily for breakfast lunch and dinner.[themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

Pizzeria Italia

Best pizza in town!

For many, this is the best pizza in San Pedro Sula. The locale is rather inconspicuous and even uninviting. But the pizza is great and the indoors are very clean. They are open daily for lunch and dinner. You will find Pizzeria Italia on the corner of 7th Avenue with 1st street, three blocks for Central Park. In addition to pizza, they also offer a variety of pasta dishes. Beer and soft drinks are available.[themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

Restaurante Vicente

One of the oldest restaurants in town. I believe it has been around since the late 1960s! Vicente is open daily for lunch and dinner, but closes between 2 and 5 p.m. The menu includes a variety of dishes, some Italian, others continental. Service is good, with the owner or his daughters usually on premises. They offer a variety of wines. It is located almost next door to Pizzeria Italia, on 7th Ave NO. This is the fanciest of your dining options in downtown San Pedro Sula. Prices are very reasonable, though.

Plaza Tipica Coracts

Plaza Coracts: local food court in downtown San Pedro Sula

If you are looking for a true Honduran food experience, this is the place to go! A large roofed plaza houses two or three dozen food stalls. Here you can find everything from baleadas and pupusas to Sopa de Caracol (Conch Soup) and Garifuna food specialties. Best of all, if you have company with you, everyone can try the food that seems more appetizing to each of them. I would like to stress the fact that this area is clean and safe. As always, keep an eye on your belongings and do not wear jewelry or fancy watches when out in public areas. It is always best not to tempt the mortals![themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]

I hope my list of downtown restaurants in San Pedro Sula is helpful to you when looking for the perfect place for lunch or dinner in the city.
