Valle de Angeles

A Popular Weekend Destination From Tegucigalpa.

One of the most visited towns in Honduras is Valle de Angeles. This lovely town, who’s translated name would be Valley of Angels has a lot of charm. It is part of a circuit near Tegucigalpa that includes Santa Lucia, San Juancito and Valle de Angeles. These are old Spanish Colonial mining towns that have retained the charm of yesteryear.

Valle de Angeles is approximately 32 km. (20 miles) from Tegucigalpa, and the drive takes about 45 minutes. During the weekends, the town is full with locals from the capital city that love to visit this city. During the week it is a pleasant quiet and quaint town. You will find a variety of restaurants, souvenir shops and wood carving shops. Strolling around town is pleasant and safe. Many people in Tegus have weekend homes here.

A night view of the local church at Valle de Angeles

Nights here are usually cool, as the altitude is 1500 meters above sea level. (This is equal to 5000 feet above sea level!) I was there last week for a night and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Stroll through the streets and walk into the woodcarving shops to see how they make true pieces of art. Walk into the quaint restaurants and enjoy a great affordable meal. If you want to see souvenirs, visit the artisans market. You will be surprised by the variety of products available here!

The pool at Cabanas Ros in Valle de Angeles

The newest property in town is Cabanas Ros. It is in a secluded spot 3 km outside of town. This property offers great rooms, the nicest pool in town and great service. For your comfort, the pool is heated. The only drawback is that it is out of town and it is hard to go into town if you don’t have a car. The owners are accommodating and will help you work out a transportation system if needed.

Visit Valle de Angeles and find out why it is so popular for residents in Tegucigalpa. It’s quiet, charming atmosphere is just what you need to relax and feel the real Honduras!
