On April 12, 1796 a group of Garifuna people where marooned on the Island of Roatan. They Brits ousted them from the island of St. Vincent in the Grenadines, in the Eastern Caribbean. The Garifuna are a unique culture that merges South American / Caribbean cultures with Western African elements.
We all know chocolate, but few of us have ever heard about gifiti. Was is this thing? I had the opportunity to chat with Mr. Ivan Franzua and his local rep, Glenda Alvarez about this “magical” concoction that is an integral part of the Garifuna culture.
I had a chance to spend a couple of nights last week in La Ensenada Resort. The rooms are great, and many of them are actually condo units with two bedroom suites and a full kitchen. My room offered a large bed with quiet air conditioning and a spacious, deluxe bathroom.
