Honduras has the best-preserved mangrove forests in the Pacific coast of Central America. These are all within the Gulf of Fonseca that Honduras shares with Nicaragua and El Salvador. Our tour started from Playa El Venado, a small community in the municipality of Marcovia, within the department of Choluteca.
It turns out they have a total of 4 rooms with two queen beds, private bathroom, TV and air conditioning. In addition, they have a dorm facility without air conditioning, but with fans. The lodge goes by the name of Cabañas Mar del Pacifico. The shared bathroom facilities at the dorm could use some upgrading, but they have both toilets and showers.
Most anyone who has been to Copan Ruinas in the last few years complains about the highway. I was just there for the weekend and am happy to provide the following Copan Ruinas highway update. I drove from La Ceiba to Copan Ruinas last Friday and just got back home a couple of hours ago.
Honduras is a set up as a Central Republic. Thus, it has departments instead of states. The biggest difference is perhaps that as departments, the population does not elect its governors. As a matter of fact, although governors in Honduras are named directly by the president, they do not have any real authority.
Sometimes you just need to stop and cut your highway trip in half. Its hard to find an ideal place to do so. I am happy to report that I just found the perfect pit stop in Tela: Aleros Gas Station. This Texaco gas station is right on CA13 highway. It offers affordable fuel, super clean bathrooms and a nice convenience store.

This week, three persons from different countries told me that I lived in Paradise. Yes you heard right: not one, not two but three different persons! That leads me to one conclusion: Paradise in Honduras does exist, and I happen to be fortunate enough to live in it!
