The Rawacala Eco Park in Omoa offers the perfect setting to explore and enjoy the tropical jungles in Honduras. You will find it tucked into the Sierra Omoa Mountains just south of the community of Paraiso in Omoa.
Things to do
Honduras has the best-preserved mangrove forests in the Pacific coast of Central America. These are all within the Gulf of Fonseca that Honduras shares with Nicaragua and El Salvador. Our tour started from Playa El Venado, a small community in the municipality of Marcovia, within the department of Choluteca.
Our destination was a beach community with the name of Playa el Venado. This is a small community of about 37 families that are fully committed to conservation of the “Tortuga Golfina” a turtle that comes to the beaches within the Gulf of Fonseca to lay their eggs.
The highest peaks in Honduras are the Cerro de las Minas or Celaque in Western Honduras. Santa Barbara in Central Honduras is the second highest peak. Pico Bonito in the Caribbean Coast is also in the top 5. You can plan a hike to the top of any of these peaks, but you will not be able to do it one day.
There are some unique souvenirs and handicrafts that you can find in Honduras. Today I will mention a group of women who produce a variety of embroidered products. These include cushions, bed spreads, purses, etc. Their themes are usually related to birds and animals you would find in a tropical rain forest.
Believe me, Grandma and Grandpa will absolutely love visiting the Macaw Mountain Bird Park. Young kids have an absolute blast in the park. They love to run up and down the trails, stop and see the birds and even play they are pirates by putting a big macaw on their shoulders.
Are looking for things to do in Tegucigalpa? Consider a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Suyapa. The Shrine consists of two different buildings. The huge, modern Basilica, and the small original church. People from all over Honduras make a pilgrimage here on the 3rd of February.
