Honduras is well known as a Banana Republic. For some time, it was the Worlds largest banana producer and exporter. However, the two main companies that played a role in this endeavor eclipsed smaller, but not less important producers such as the Cuyamel Fruit Company.
This massive fortress was built during colonial times to defend the Spanish commercial fleet in the Gulf of Honduras. King Ferdinand VI of Spain gave instructions to build the fortress. Construction took place between 1768 and 1775. This is without doubt the most important colonial military building in Central America and is in very good condition

Frederick William Hahneman was one of the executives at the Trujillo Railroad company. His son, Bill Hahneman hijacked Eastern Airlines in 1972 and demanded to be brought to Honduras.
