A Walk in Paradise

Nothing like a walk in paradise when you are feeling down. This lockdown is for the birds. But then again, they (the birds) are not part of the lockdown and are all over the place. My secluded piece of paradise offers an outstanding spot for birdwatching. Although I am not a birdwatcher, there are some birds that I can certainly identify. My favorite local bird, by far, is the keel billed toucan. I happen to live along the Cangrejal River Valley, which I sometimes call Toucan Alley. You can hear and see these spectacular birds daily from my vantage point.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

Of course, I cannot sit in my hammock all day and watch toucans. Fortunately, I can stroll around the property and even take a short walk along the road that connects our spectacular area with La Ceiba. Thank God that I can always take a walk in Paradise! Without doubt, my favorite is to walk down to the river. The Cangrejal River is spectacular. The huge boulders in the middle of the riverbed create enticing natural swimming holes. There are interconnected by short rapids between the boulders. Sometimes it has swift currents, but other times there are powerful rapids that form here. Therefore, the river is awesome for white water rafting. Normally I like to go down to the river in the late afternoon. There is nothing better that jumping into the refreshing, crystal clear waters of the Cangrejal River. Especially after a particularly hot summer day![themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

In the early morning I like to go on a hike down the road that connects our property with some of the other Cangrejal River Hotels. It is nice and cool in the morning. Sometimes, I cannot resist the views with the early morning golden hour and must find a path to catch a glimpse of the river. The sun shining of the huge boulders provides for a mesmerizing moment where peace and calm abound. Sitting down on a boulder enjoying the site and listening to the sound of water running makes me forget that we are in a Covid-19 lockdown.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
An Adventure in Paradise!

Finally, another great option for a walk in Paradise is to hike one of the many Pico Bonito Trails along the Cangrejal River. A magnificent swing bridge that is over 400 feet long will take you across the canyon into Pico Bonito National Park. The bridge affords fantastic views of the river and the valley. Keep in mind that the bridge is not appropriate for those who are afraid of heights! It is not only high over the river; it also sways as you walk over it! More so if there are several persons on the bridge! The most popular trail is El Mapache, which translated is “the racoon”. It leads to the magnificent El Bejuco Waterfall. Talk about a true tropical paradise! As you can see, there are many options for a great walk in paradise along the Cangrejal River Valley.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

If you are in a mood to take a walk in Paradise, I wholeheartedly suggest you plan a visit to the Cangrejal River in La Ceiba. You are always welcome to make a reservation at La Villa de Soledad B&B, an award-winning property that is ideal to relax in nature. In addition, there are several other properties available in the area. Without doubt, you will find the perfect fit for your needs![themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

Do you have any idea when the lockdown will be lifted in Honduras?

Hi Peter! There is absolutely no telling. I do not think anyone knows. The private sector was putting pressure on reopening, but the spike after starting has made them put on the breaks. Quite frustrating not knowing anything about when things might get back to normal…
