The Plaza San Martin Hotel District in Tegucigalpa has several different hotels that sit next to each other. In addition, the two largest convention centers in Tegucigalpa are within the district: The Honduras Maya and the Plaza Juan Carlos Convention Centers. Although the hotels have their own restaurants and bars, travelers often prefer to take a walk and explore other alternatives. With a total of over 600 hotel rooms available in the area, there are many nice alternatives to choose from. Best of all, the area has a small park and there are various establishments, from café´s serving gourmet coffee to microbreweries. Of course, bars and restaurants are all part of the offer.

I was in Tegus las week to attend the State of Digital Conference at the Plaza Juan Carlos Convention Center. Of course, I took advantage to take a walk and check the area. I must say that it has become quite chic, and there are very interesting options to enjoy. Topping my list was the Honduras Brewing Co. Microbrewery. Here I ordered a dark stout beer that was quite delightful. Best of all, you can see all their brewing equipment behind a glass window right on the premises! This is one of the few microbreweries in Honduras! Of course, you probably do not want to stop by a microbrewery in the early morning! Fortunately, there are several great coffee shops in the area that offer gourmet Honduras coffee![themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

Coffee Shops at the Plaza San Martin Hotel District

Without doubt, the most popular one is Galeanos. Galeanos serves great gourmet coffee in a pleasant artistic setting. They also have a great variety of artistic t shirts that make place for a great souvenir or a gift to take back to your loved ones that will always remind you of Honduras. The Avenida Café is another great alternative. Here you can enjoy a cup of gourmet coffee or a fine glass of wine.  They are open daily for breakfast lunch and dinner and serve a variety of options, including burritos, croissants, sandwiches, paninis and salads.  You can choose between an indoor setting or take one of the sidewalk tables and enjoy seeing the locals walking by.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

Nearby is a Mexican Restaurant that will make you feel like you are in Mexico. Tables in an open patio stand out with colorful tablecloths and place mats. La Calavera Fusion Food Bar is a fun place to drink a fine shot of tequila, taste some great Mexican food and enjoy the pleasant outdoor setting after dusk in Tegucigalpa. Plaza San Martin Hotel District in Tegucigalpa is a very safe area. There are only two streets leading into the Plaza.
