Christmas and New Years 2017–2018 Honduras Travel Update
It’s inevitable; the year is coming to its end. This means that the Christmas and New Years 2017-2018 holidays will soon be with upon us. Are planning to spend your holidays in Honduras? If the answer is yes, you should start planning and making reservations soon! As they say, the sooner the better! This is one of the busiest travel times of year in Latin America, and Honduras is no exception.
As a general rule, Hondurans spend Christmas at home and travel for New Years. This means that hotels will have a higher occupancy during New Years Holiday. As is customary we try to remind you of things that you should keep in mind when traveling in Honduras during the busiest time of the year. This is why we have put together this Christmas and New Years 2017-2018 Honduras Travel Update.
The Honduras Transportation system shuts down completely over Christmas and New Years Day. As a general rule, there will be regular service on December 24th, and December 31st. The local airlines will provide their regular services. The same is true of the Ferry Boats that serve the Bay Islands. Bus Companies usually cancel their evening departures on these days, with the last departures leaving at around 3 p.m.
Make sure you do not make any travel plans if you need public transportation on Christmas Day, December 25th, and New Years Day, January 1st. There is no domestic service on these dates. The local airlines have no local flights, no ferry service and no bus service. Of course, if you are traveling in or out of Honduras on an international airline, their will be services available. But you better make sure you are spending the night in the city where your flight departs from!
Of course, the day after the holiday, everybody wants and needs to get back home. This calls for overbooked situations. If at all possible, make sure you have pre purchased your tickets in advance. Also, make sure you arrive with extra time. High demand means that extra departures are available. Usually, they dispatch them as they fill up, which means that your flight or bus may leave early!
I hope this information helps you plan your Christmas and New Years 2017-2018 vacations! Happy travels throughout Honduras.
