The State of Tourism in Honduras in the Early Reopening after Covid-19
Tomorrow, August 17 is a historical day for the reopening of tourism to Honduras! The airports in Honduras will begin to see airlines resuming the flight schedules. Most of the service will begin with the San Pedro Sula airport (SAP). Spirit Airlines is resuming service from Fort Lauderdale and Houston to this airport in Honduras starting tomorrow, according to a report by CaribJournal.com, an online tourism related publication. As part of our effort to provide up to date information to travelers, I am happy to share the State of Tourism in Honduras in the Early Reopening after Covid-19.
American Airlines and United Airlines have both confirmed that they are commencing operations on that same day. Service will begin to San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa. However, service to Roatan is also scheduled to commence before the end of the month!
For Once, Clear Instructions!
I have long griped about the lack of clear instructions regarding information from the government. However, I just came across a video from the National Immigration Authority in Honduras regarding instructions for travelers visiting Honduras. It is simple and clear. If only they could do one in English! I a happy to share the video with you, which I believe is quite clear and simple. If you do not understand Spanish, I am happy to list the translated instructions right below!
Unofficial Translation:
Welcome to Honduras! To ensure your speedy immigration processing upon arrival, please take note of the following instructions:
Visit the following portal and pre-register: https://prechequeo.inm.gob.hn/ (You will need to register and then fill in your documents) I was pleasantly surprised to see that they did have an English translation. Although it is not perfect and might take a bit intuition. For example, instead of sign in you will read sing in.
The second important thing to keep in mind is that you will need to provide a Covid-19 PCR or rapid test that must be issued less than 72 hours prior to your arrival in Honduras. Please note that this is not 72 hours prior to commencing your trip, but rather 72 hours prior you showing up at the airport in Honduras!
If you are traveling with minors and they are not traveling with both parents, you will need an authorization for them to travel with you. This must be ratified by a public notary.
You will need to have a valid passport, and depending on your nationality, a tourist visa to enter Honduras. North American and European Community citizens do not require visas. If you are from a country that requires visas but are a legal resident of the USA or hold a valid tourist visa to the USA you can show that to gain entry.
Immigration authorities may request additional information from you upon arrival. This is meant to assist contact tracing if it might be needed. Of course, upon deplaning, you will always need to use a face mask and try to maintain social distancing. This applies not only while at the airport, but during your visit to Honduras. You should also have alcohol gel with you as a disinfectant. (To be honest, I am not sure how this will work. I can´t imagine airlines allowing everyone to carry flammable gel in their carry-on bags during flights!)
Does your Travel take you Beyond San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa or Roatan?
If you are flying into one of the airports and need to continue on to another destination in Honduras, you will be happy to hear that the airport taxi service is up and running. Also local airlines are now offering service, and therefore, you will be able to travel on to your final destination. There is service between San Pedro Sula and Tegucigalpa to La Ceiba. The same can be said from La Ceiba to the islands of Utila and Roatan.

To travel back to the US do we need a Corona 19 test to get out of Honduras ?

Hi Thierry! Thank you for reaching out to us! The Honduras immigration authorities do not require proof of a covid free test when departing the country. You might want to check if the country you are traveling too requires one. They do request that you preregister your departure at their site. this is the same sight where you preregister your entrance to Honduras. As a reminder, the site is http://www.prechequeo.inm.gob.hn There is no other new requirement, other than having your travel documents. If you have overstayed you will need to pay the fine to depart. Minors not traveling with both their parents required a notarized authorization allowing them to depart. Have a great day!

Good morning Annetta! Thank you for reaching out to us, I apologize for the delay in answering! Yes everybody coming into Honduras, regardless of citizenship, or country from where they are flying is required to present a Covid-19 PCR test with a negative result to enter Honduras. Please note that the results must be no older that 72 hours prior to your arrival to Honduras.
