Let us face it, after two months of lock-down in most of the World, we are all looking forward to escaping on an idyllic vacation. I can imagine few places as idyllic as the Bay Islands of Honduras. But are the Bay Islands of Honduras Covid-19 free? Are they safe to visit? Are they open for business again?
Above all, as you know, the Bay Islands are a small archipelago just north of the Caribbean Coast of Honduras. The islands are within the Gulf of Honduras. The largest and most popular are Roatan, Guanaja and Utila. After a two-month lock-down, the government of Honduras has confirmed that the Bay Islands of Honduras are Covid-19 free! This is great news. During this period, there have been no reported cases of Covid-19 in this insular department.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
Life is Back to Normal in Covid-19 Free Roatan!
There are about 70,000 persons living in the island of Roatan, and they are leading the return to normal life within Honduras. All businesses, except for bars are now open. It is life back to normal in Roatan, and although bars are closed restaurants will serve you a beer or your favorite cocktail. Even the taxis are now offering services in Roatan. They are one of five cities in the country where public transportation is reopening!
There is only one thing pending for life to be back to normal in Roatan. The reopening of the ferry service between Roatan and La Ceiba on the mainland and the Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport. Once this last step is achieved, you will be able to visit Roatan and enjoy its magnificent beaches, coral reefs and great tours and night life.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
The other popular island within this archipelago is the Island of Utila. Utila is also back to normal, except that they are not selling booze in restaurants. Other than that, business is open, waiting for the return of tourists once the ferry service from La Ceiba is restarted.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
Guanaja Island, the eastern most island of the archipelago is also Covid-19 free. Although they offer fewer rooms and are less visited, they are a perfect place to visit if you are looking for an uncrowded, natural setting where you will need not worry about social distancing. Most of the hotels in Guanaja are far away from each other. Most are small facilities, with fewer than 10 rooms each. Ideal for a getaway to enjoy nature in a lovely Caribbean Island off the beaten track.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
