I recently wrote a post about Honduras easing up its lockdown due to Covid-19. I was very excited to announce that the airports were starting up flights again. But I must confess that I was not aware that the actual borders remained closed. Therefore, I am happy to announce that as far as we have learned from a trusted source, that Honduras borders will reopen this week! I must confess that I was not aware that Guatemala and El Salvador have not yet opened their airports. Because they are still in a lockdown, their borders have remained closed.
Honduras Borders with Guatemala and El Salvador to Reopen this Week
Guatemala is to reopen its airports on September 18, 2020. This is only two days from now! Together with this step, they will reopen their borders. This means that as of September 18, you can expect that Guatemala and Honduras will reopen this week! This is great news, since it means that Guatemalan citizens will be able to visit Honduras. It also means that international travelers that seek a multi-nation destination in Central America will be able to visit these two countries! The same is expected to happen with El Salvador, who is officially opening its airport and borders on the 19th of September.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
For Honduras, many international flights are more affordable if you use Guatemala or El Salvador as your gateway into Central America. I would expect to see an uptick in international arrivals to Honduras thanks to this important return to normalcy. Lets all keep our fingers crossed! Although there has been no official notice yet, I can only expect that the same requisites will be applied for those arriving by land as to those who arrive by air. Therefore, make sure you show up at the border with a negative PCR Covid-19 test. You will be denied entry if you do not. Also, pre-register in the immigration website portal before arrival.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
Honduras Borders with Nicaragua will be Last to Reopen
As for Nicaragua, I understand that the borders will remain closed until sometime in October. I will be on the lookout to let you know when the last of Honduras borders will reopen! I hope that you find this information useful. Feel free to get back to me if you have any questions. I will do my best to answer them if I have the proper answer. Otherwise, I will try to get the correct information.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
To end my post, I would like to add a disclaimer. Since the Honduras borders reopening depends on the agreement between Guatemala and Honduras and El Salvador and Honduras, there could be glitches. By this I mean, there could be a delay. But I would like to think that by this coming weekend we should be able to come and go between these countries. It remains to be seen what requirements Guatemala and El Salvador will demand for those seeking entry into their countries.
