WestJet Announces a New Route from Toronto to Roatan!
WestJet, a Canadian air carrier based in Calgary, Alberta announced yesterday that they will begin a flight to Roatan Honduras! The service is scheduled to commence this December and will operate once a week on Sundays. The route is from Toronto to Roatan and according to the preliminary schedule, will be landing in Roatan RTB airport at 1:11 pm. This new flight is sure to open a new market that until now has been open only to Charter air service. The flight will have an approximate duration of 5 ½ hours and the equipment will be a Boeing 737 jet aircraft.
The Roatan Airport is a Gateway into Mainland Honduras!

This new route will not only open the doors for Canadians visiting Roatan. There are several real estate developments on the mainland of Honduras where Canadians have invested. These include Corinto Pearl in La Ceiba, as well as several developments in Trujillo Bay. The Roatan Ferry makes it very easy to travel from Roatan to La Ceiba. Operated by Safeway Maritime Company, the Galaxy Wave has two daily departures from Roatan to La Ceiba. From La Ceiba, it is easy to travel to Trujillo if that is your destination in Honduras.[themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]

The Utila Ferry also provides service between Roatan and Utila. They have one daily departure between Roatan and Utila. This means that Canadians will be able to travel between easily to Utila as well! With this new WestJet flight from Toronto, means that there are now 8 gateways with nonstop flights into Roatan. These gateway cities are San Salvador, Guatemala City, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, New York City and now Toronto![themify_hr color=”light-gray” width=”1″ border_width=”1″]
We congratulate the Roatan authorities and entrepreneurs for the good job of opening new routes. This new route from Toronto to Roatan is the first nonstop flight from Canada to Honduras. We are confident that is will be the first of many more to Honduras. Congratulations to WestJet for this new route!

I’m flying into Roatan on Feb. 09. I want to catch the Roatan to Utila ferry which, from what I’ve seen, leaves Roatan at 2:00 p.m. Will I have time to make it to the ferry based on the Westjet scheduled landing time of 1:11 p.m.? Is there a way to communicate to the ferry service of my plan/schedule?

Hi Derek! the ferry operates on a schedule and will not wait for anyone. If you are lucky and the immigration authorities dispatch you quick and in a hurry, you could make the ferry. It is about a 5 minute ride between the airport and the ferry terminal. It will be tight, but if all the stars align in your favor you may make it. I would suggest trying to get off the aircraft as soon as possible. Not checking your bags should also help get out of the airport quick and in a hurry.

Thanks John. I’m only taking carry-on so that will help. If I don’t make it I’ll have to find a hotel for a 1 night stay. Hopefully as a walk-in I’ll be able to find one. What’s the normal cost for a taxi from the airport to the ferry terminal?

Good luck! Taxis at the airport terminal are notoriously expensive. I would not pay anything over $20 US. You can always walk out of the terminal, and catch a cab on the main road. However, due to the fact that you will be pressed for time, you will probably be better off just spending a few extra bucks and be on your way ASAP!
