Find The Best Mexican Food in San Pedro Sula at “Donde Ofelia”

Yes you can find great Mexican Food in San Pedro Sula. There is a family run restaurant that has been around for over two decades. It started as a hobby by a lovely Mexican lady who lived in San Pedro Sula. Her name was Ofelia Ruelas. Ofelia was from the Mexican State of Guerrero, and her Honduran husband loved Guerrero style pozole. So Ofelia would cook pozole often for her family, and soon, friends would stop by to eat some pozole. Before she knew it, there were many people who wanted to taste her by now famous food. She started a little weekend business in her garage. Before she knew it, she had to expand the days she was open for business.

Her home became a must go to place for Mexicans living in San Pedro Sula. Many took their friends there, and soon, the restaurant was popular. Since it was in Ofelia’s home, it is known as “Donde Ofelia”. Ofelia lost a battle with cancer, and passed away several years ago. Her son, “Juan Jose Junior” kept the business running. This week, while in San Pedro Sula, I went to have dinner at Donde Ofelia. Although they have several items on the menu, I crave Ofelia’s Pozole soup. I am happy to report that Junior has been loyal to his mom’s recipe, and it is just as good as always.
