Lunch in Tegus
Last week I was in Tegus for a quick trip. I had an appointment at the Honduras Institute of Tourism early in the morning. To make sure I was there on time, I got there the day before and spent a night at the Minister Business Hotel. I must say it is one of my favorite hotels in Tegucigalpa. It is small and cozy, and has a friendly staff. Rooms are clean and have a great workstation to work from if you took your laptop computer with you. Breakfast is great in the mornings, but best of all they have a great bar! The Sky Lounge is a rooftop bar with one of the best views in Tegucigalpa. Cocktails are great, there is always a nice crowd and the scene is first class. After a good night sleep at the hotel, I was ready for my meeting!
The meeting went fine, and I was fortunate to have booked my return flight to La Ceiba with Lanhsa Airlines. This airline now has service between La Ceiba and Tegucigalpa. Their schedule gives you one extra hour in Tegucigalpa! This means that you have time to have a good lunch at one of the many restaurants in Tegucigalpa. There is nothing worse than having to rush through lunch to make it to the airport in time for your flight!
Lunch in Tegus at Carmela, the New Italian Restaurant in Town
One of my best friends was at the meeting, and I took advantage of his presence and invited him and his wife for lunch. We agreed on finding a restaurant that served pasta, and ended up at a new plaza with several restaurants. First time for all of us. The truth is that Tegucigalpa keeps getting more and more sophisticated. This new plaza is on the ridge facing south in Las Lomas de Guijarro. The view is spectacular, and since we are still in March, it was not to hot at noon time, so the terrace was wide open. This new plaza has several great alternatives for lunch in Tegus!

The Restaurant name is Carmela, and it has a nice atmosphere. They serve great pizza and pasta. The waiting staff was friendly and good looking. They took good care of us. Prices were right and the wine was great. Two of us ordered pasta, the other a salad. We were all delighted with our food, which we enjoyed. I preferred to ask for another glass of wine in place of a dessert, so I can’t comment on their sweets. But they all looked enticing and I must admit I was tempted to try one! I can’t wait for my next chance to have lunch in Tegus to check out the Mexican Restaurant next to Carmela.[themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]
Best of all, we ate at leisure, paid our bill and then continued on to the airport to catch my flight. No hurries and everything went fine. I was home at La Villa de Soledad in time to relax in my hammock and then have a great dinner with my lovely family![themify_hr border_width=”1″ width=”1″ color=”light-gray”]
Two Tegucigalpa Favorites to Share With You
There are two places that have become my favorites in Tegus that I would like to share with you. If you want a great cup of coffee in an interesting eclectic atmosphere, you should visit Cafe Galeano. They are in within walking distance of the Distrito Hotelero San Martin. This means walking distance from the Hotel Honduras Maya. They offer great coffee, good pastries and interesting T-shirts with Honduran art.
My other favorite is the Vinalia Wine Bar. If you enjoy a good glass of wine, this is a definite must! It is on the ground floor the Hyatt Place Tegucigalpa. You can choose between outdoor sidewalk tables or a pleasant indoor atmosphere. Personally, I enjoy the outdoor sidewalk tables.
