Roatan Restaurants

Roatan Restaurants

There are many different Roatan Restaurants to choose from. Following is a list of the best Roatan Restaurants located between French Harbour and the East End. We are preparing a separate sections with the best Roatan Restaurants located in Sandy Bay, West End and West Bay Beach.

French Harbour Area

Gio’s

By far the oldest continuously functioning Roatan restaurants, Gio’s is personally overlooked by don Gio and his wife Doña Rosa. Gio, the son of one of the first truly successful restaurateurs in Honduras, who by the way was Italian, grew up in restaurants and knows the business inside out. The specialty here is King Crab, and trust me, you won’t find better king crab anywhere on the island. Menu includes a complete selection of seafood dishes but is not limited to that, they have great chicken and beef dishes as well. The original location in French Harbour offers three ambiances in one location, an outdoor terrace deck directly over the water, and two indoor areas, one with air-conditioning and other without. Open daily for lunch from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. and for dinner from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. Just in case you are wondering if its worth while to travel all the way to French Harbour to dine at Gio’s,  you will be happy to learn that they have recently opened a new location in Flowers Bay, about halfway between Coxen Hole and West Bay, along the south shore road. The new location offers the same menu, but has a large, spacious saloon with lovely ocean views as well as a pleasant outdoor terrace with tables. Incidentally, it is worth while taking the drive to Gio’s!

Herby`s Sports Bar and Grill

A bit of Americana right in Roatan. A full fledged sports bar and grill with a great original collection of US sports memorabilia direct from the owners personal collection! A nice setting with many TV screens showing the top sports events in the US and around the world. A great place to watch Monday night football! Bar serves really ice cold beers as well as tropical cocktails and spirited drinks. Very spacious, and food reasonably priced, great burgers and wraps plus a variety of appetizers. Has become a local favourite very fast! Open daily. Located at the Clarion Suites Roatan at Pineapple Villas, just outside of French Harbour heading east on the main road.

Frenchy`s 44

Located just off French Harbour, on the main island across from Little French Cay. Really nice setting right on the waterfront with a view to the Cay. Outstanding food and a full international bar. Open daily for lunch and dinner. A favourite among yachters anchored in the bay, and occasionally used by the diving operators in the area. Very friendly service and outstanding seafood. Owners also have the nice Cay just 3 minutes away by boat and can give you a ride there to enjoy facilities and this lovely unspoiled little island!

Palmetto Bay Plantation

Although actually on the opposite side of the island from French Harbour, Palmetto can be reached through a dirt road that is just next to the Roatan MegaPlaza Mall. Take note that this road can be very muddy and require 4X4 during the rainy season. An alternate route is on the main road from Coxen towards Sandy Bay, take the Mud Hole detour, and although the road is also a dirt road, it is an all weather road year round. Palmetto Bay is an exclusive resort and the restaurant is not only charming, the food is outstanding. A perfect setting for a nice romantic dinner. Island style cooking, specializing in fresh seafood with the best of the best ingredients. Friendly service and charming atmosphere. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a lovely pool and beach area, so you can plan on spending part of the day here relaxing, enjoying a good meal and basking in the sun in their beach or pool chaise lounges!

Parrot Tree Area

Parrot Tree Coffee House

Located within the Parrot Tree Plantation Hotel and Condominiums, right on the Marina, this nice coffee house is a great option for breakfast or lunch on this end of the island. The Resort is in a class by its own, and you can easily see it from the décor in this establishment. Nice air conditioned interior and outdoor terrace seating for those who prefer to bask in the tropical heat of Roatan. Open daily for lunch and dinner. Great place for a business meeting or to discuss purchasing real estate with your broker.

La Palapa at Parrot Tree

Also located at the Parrot Tree, this is a more informal setting, right on the beach. Food and service is at its best, but the sandflies can be terrible. They do however usually have bug repellent available for guests if requested. Menu is not extensive, but has a bit of everything, including burgers, beef, shrimp, lobster, and of course fish. They also have full international bar service and direct access to a lovely beach in a secluded bay that will surely tempt you to jump in. La Palapa is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Jonesville / Oakridge Area

The Hole in the Wall

This is one of those places that is ugly, difficult to get to, with food that is OK but not out of this world, and yet has a charm of its own that draws people to it. Located in Jonesville Bight, across the water from the picturesque island town of Jonesville, access to the Hole in the Wall is by water only, meaning that you must take a boat from Jonesville to get to this place. Put together with whatever materials were available, it has a rickety look, more of a shack than a commercial building where you would put up a business, but then, that is all part of the charm here. Food is OK, service is friendly and customers rave about the experience of having been there. Their Sunday BBQ is famous with locals who always recommend it to their friends visiting from abroad. This has to be one of the most unique of all Roatan Restaurants!

Paya Bay / Camp Bay Area

Paya Bay

Located in the Eastern end of the island, about half ways between Oak Ridge and Camp Bay on the main, dirt road that leads east from Oakridge. If you are into exploring the eastern end of the island, this is a great option for lunch, make sure you bring your bathing suits to enjoy swimming in their lovely beaches! Paya Bay Resort is a really nice, secluded beach and dive resort set in a lovely bay with two beaches that are practically for the exclusive use of guests. They feature a really nice restaurant, perched on a small cliff overlooking the Caribbean, were on a clear day you can see the islands of Barbareta and Guanaja in the horizon. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Paya Bay specalizes in Island style seafood cuisine. The owners are always on premises and provide friendly service. Relax, and enjoy the fantastic view while you eat your meal

La Sirena

Located almost at the end of the Island! La Sirena is located at Camp Bay Beach, which is one of the two large white sand beaches in Roatan. (The other one is West Bay Beach) Getting there is an adventure in itself, as you leave the more developed area of Roatan and head out towards the East End, which is less inhabited, less developed, but more natural and authentic! La Sirena is a small beach shack over the water. It is far from fancy or elegant, but is has a lot of magic in it. Food is outstanding and the beaches nearby are perfect. The restaurant specializes in sea food and offers a limited international bar and nice ice cold beers. Open daily from 9:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. If you are looking for Roatan restaurants with a true island feeling, this is a great bet!
