Here is our Selection of the Best Restaurants in Comayagua:
Comayagua has become a local favorite day tour for the inhabitants of Tegucigalpa, who really enjoy its colonial atmosphere and the hospitality of its people. There has been a mayor turn around in the city. 30 years ago it was bustling with US army and air force personnel stationed at the Soto Cano Air Force Base (locally referred to as Palmerola). With the end of the Cold War, the city entered a downfall that was reversed thanks to the mayor in turn, Carlos Miranda. Miranda has been re-elected as mayor of Comayagua 5 times, something unheard of in Honduras! Comayagua has since motivated local and foreign entrepreneurs to invest in tourism businesses and an incredible change has taken place!
Although there are many different options for eating and dining in town, following is a list of the top restaurants in Comayagua:
Villareal.
A tradition in Comayagua, Villareal is owned and managed by Juan Carlos Zapata. He is a member of a large family in Comayagua who are leaders in the cultural theme of this town. The restaurant is one block east of the Cathedral. It is in a lovely restored old colonial home and decorated with antiques they have collected over the years. Their menu includes a variety of dishes, including a superb chicken stew as well as beef, chicken, fish and seafood plates. On the weekends, they also have a lively bar and the best disco in town, making it the in place on Friday and Saturday nights. Open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner from 11:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m., later of course on weekends. Telephone (504) 2772 0101.
La Gota de Limon
A nice, relatively small business located one block east of City Hall, in the heart of downtown Comayagua. Typical Honduran cuisine, a nice pleasant atmosphere and good service are all part of this establishment. Open Tuesday to Sunday for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 9:00 a.m till midnight, later on weekends. The second story has a nice terrace with a view of the cathedrals dome, with a nice bar and a disco saloon that turns into one of the true hotspots in Comayagua after hours. Telephone (504) 2772 8446.
Casa Colonial
Located right smack on Central Park in Comayagua, adjacent to the the cathedral and across the street from city hall. They have a nice indoor setting but the real treat is to take the tables that are outside, right on the park. Relax, enjoy the colonial atmosphere of Comayagua. Order a nice cold beer of a glass of wine while you enjoy your dinner. Although open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I really suggest the dinner time. This is when you can enjoy the outdoor seating at the park. Menu offers a bit of everything, from typical Honduran to continental cuisine. Prices are reasonable and quality is consistent. Either Ricardo, the owner or his wife are always on premises supervising quality and being good hosts.
